Smart switches can be an easy and affordable way to control lights and other devices in your home. First, make sure you have all the tools and materials you need. This includes the wall switch, a Phillips-head screwdriver, a flat-head screwdriver, electrical tape, wire strippers, and a voltage tester.

Second, shut off the power to the circuit you will be working on. It is important to never work on an electrical project with the power still on.

Third, remove the existing switch plate and unscrew the switch from the wall. Then, remove the wires from the switch and identify which one is the load, which is the line, and which is the neutral.

Fourth, use the wire strippers to strip the ends of each of the wires. Then, connect the new switch’s wires to the existing wires, being careful to match the colors.

Fifth, install the switch into the wall box and attach the switch plate. Before turning the power back on, make sure the switch is flush with the wall and that all the connections are secure.

Finally, turn the power back on and test the switch. If it is working properly, you can now proceed to connect it to your home’s Wi-Fi network.
